The US Commerce Department reported that US consumers increased their online buying in 2002 Q4 by a whopping 35.9%, spending $8.686 billion and outstripping the 5.4% gain in total retail sales during the traditional holiday shopping season.
E-Commerce

The amount of money now being transacted over the Internet is measured in the billions of dollars - and rising exponentially. There are numerous reports, and various measures, but in 2003 it is estimated that online stores will serve over 70 million shoppers to the tune of 10 billion dollars! Moreover, Internet shoppers form one of the most attractive marketing demographics, with 56% belonging to the 25 - 44 age group, 70% with college degrees, and 61% earning more than $50,000 a year. In addition, in a survey of Internet users, 55% indicated that they got information about a product or service online before making a traditional retail purchase, and 41% said they made a buying decision in the last six months because of something they learned online. And these ratios are all predicted to grow.

E-commerce is the practice of selling goods and services directly over the Internet, using your electronic storefront as a "virtual employee"; one able to display information about goods and services, take and authorize credit cards, debit cards and electronic checks, and offer shipping and delivery alternatives 24 hours a day - with no overtime!

So is e-commerce right for your company? Maybe not. Not that we don't want to help you set up an Internet store if you have a business or idea suited to it, but fact is, most companies simply are not suited for this kind of activity. For those that are however, Softnet can assist you in establishing a full-featured store with all of the services. We can link your storefront directly to a database containing your product descriptions, photos, prices, shipping costs and methods, even customer lists to provide visitors with a unique and personal shopping experience.

Since the needs and requirements for e-commerce systems can vary widely from company to company, it is impossible to estimate the cost of taking your store online without carefully evaluating your business and online objectives. Give us a call to arrange a site evaluation and consultation, where we can help you decide if an electronic store is a smart choice for you.
